Ah, we meet again!

Hello and welcome! I hope everyone's weekend has gotten off to a great start. I know mine has. The only down side is that I was not able to join the craziness that is Comic Con this year :( So i decided to cheer myself up with my own personal "nerd party of one"! Maybe a little Lord of the Rings trilogy, an Ebay comic book search, and of course lots and lots of sketching. Sounds like a good time to me :P

But I would like to announce that the painting series that I started is complete. Below you will find the final character in the series. I'll be packing these babies up so they can be shipped to a gallery! Hope you like the new art!

Hello again!
Just stopping by to post another update. I hope everyone's holiday was fabulous! I've never been so active in my life: bike riding, walking the dog, zip lining, hiking, and all the delicious food! I'm amazed I'm not in a coma yet. So I decided to relax in my studio and catch up on paintings. I'm really getting into it!

So sorry for the very long delay, but my life went into major reconstruction so a break was much needed. I finally was able to move into my new home and create the studio of my dreams :D So we are back in business if anyone needs any commissions or freelance work done. It's been far too long! I've missed you!

Sorry about the long delay, but work has been keeping me pretty busy. Of course that is the story of everyone's life :D It's been raining all day today so thats a guarantee that I stay indoors! A few updates: my favorite Late Night Drawing workshop was back last week and I was able to drop in (hence the picture down below!) Hello hello!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend? Not a big news worthy day, but I thought I should update anyways, even if it's a little boring.
But in the not so boring news!!!! My artwork is now jewelry! Woo! My mom is a very talented and inspirational jewelry designer, and she asked me to contribute some art for a new etching technique that she's been trying out. I'm so in love with the results that I kinda want to buy it for myself :P...seriously. (So buy more books so I can afford it! Hehe)
I'll definitely be sending her more options in the near future to see what she comes up with. Here's a quick picture that she sent me (I guess she still has to rinse off the backing on it, so more of the copper shines through).

I definitely want to come up with a lot more :D
In others news: Thank you so much for the continued support of my first illustration book, I'm so flattered! You guys are awesome!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful January. It's time for another update!!! I've been back in Colorado for the past few days and I have to say that I've missed it. Even though I've been traveling, production has been good. Three of the four Valentine's cards are done and need to be painted, commissions are coming in, and I've been making good headway on the up and coming web comic.
Let me know if anyone would like commission work done, I'm making room for them in my schedule. We can talk about price! I'll be starting them on a first come first serve basis. Let me know what you have in mind.

Hello again!

Look at me, updating so soon :D I'm trying to be better at this whole blogging thing...hopefully I won't start slacking again! I'm so happy that I've been so busy with commissions and projects, I feel like I am finally back in my element. Lots of fun stuff is happening in the future. The illustration book is almost completely straightened out, and I'll update everyone on where to get their hands on it soon.
Also keep your eyes out for Valentine's Day cards. I used to love being a kid and getting all those Valentine's Day cards from everyone in your class (back when it was fun). So I decided to be nostalgic and create my own. It will be a sheet that have several on it so you can print it out and give to all your valentines! Tell your friends!

What is up, kiddies!

I know I have been gone for way too long, and for that I apologize. But exciting events are in the works! In the spirit of the new year, I have new projects lined up. I'm cutting loose and going out on my own at the moment. My first little art book is done, that's right! DONE! And it will be on sale in the next week or so as soon as I research which platform I should sell it from.
In other news...well I'll give you a hint: webcomic. Keep your eyes peeled, since I'm ramping up on that front!

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the long absence. Life has been pretty tough lately and I've been trying to get back to a better place in order to do art again. Thank you for your patience and for sticking with me in these uncertain times. When I was met with this particular road block in life I decided that the only thing to do was to crash right through it. So that's what I did. I dragged myself to one of my favorite drawing clubs (the motivation to go has been increasingly more difficult to find) and was so glad that I did.
I have never felt more content than when I find myself working on a project. With all these questions that have no answers I know that I can always fall back on creating something and all will be right in my world again.
A lot of changes are soon going to happen: I'm working on my own book of illustrations and have decided to start another portfolio blog. I'm thinking that I'll post the more professional, finished art there. I think I would like to keep this blog open as well for thoughts and sketches. So don't worry, I will not abandon this site. I'll keep you updated when I get things figured out. In the mean time, here is my work from last night:

It's been awhile!
I am very happy to say that I got a few days off that actually fell at the beginning of the week, so that meant Late Night Drawing!!!!! Woo!!! I was so happy to go. It was a packed house last night and the theme was Vampirella. Lots of fun. I'm still working like crazy, so sorry that updates are far apart. It's the best I can do at the moment.
But for the good news!!! I'm going to Comic Con 2010!!! I finally got my days off finalized from Disney (it was a nice long and difficult process) and I can't wait to attend. I'll take lots of pictures :D So here are some of my sketches from last night as well as a Drawing Club Sunday session that I did a few weeks back. I thought I would update with a lot of work done that way it makes it exciting.
Other than that, not much is going on! Except Disneyland is updating the Star Tours ride in a month (AAAAAARRRRRG)!!!! They're updating to pod racing -_-' I don't know why Disney wants to kill off my childhood systematically, but there you have it.

Back in Black

Post time!!!!
I finally was able to attend a Late Nite drawing session :) It's been months now since I've been able to go to anything and it was really nice to just sit back and sketch. I guess I must have looked really into it, since before the models even came out another artist stated that I was working too hard :D It felt good to finally be drawing again. The theme was an interesting one: devil girl. It was nice to just let loose. The costume was really fun to interpret and I was able to create some interesting characters. The models even asked if they could take pictures of my work, which was a huge compliment :)

Disney is still working me hard. I've been trying to eat healthier to keep my energy levels up. I've barely been able to get in one meal a day, but that will have to stop! I've been seeing a new set of trainees come in so hopefully my hours will become better...like maybe some that are held in the daylight! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Trying to get back to life...

Hello out there!
I thought it was about time to post again, however I have no artwork that's been updated. But I didn't want to leave everyone hanging, so I thought I would let people know what's been going on. I'm trying to get through my first few weeks at Disneyland and they are really keeping me on my toes. The hours are crazy and around the clock, and I've been the lucky one that gets the vast majority of the night shifts (damn lack of seniority!). So not only is my sleep clock messed up, but my eating schedule and creative outlet have been shot! Unfortunately my schedule has me starting around 9 or 10 o'clock at night so I can no longer attend any of my drawing get togethers :( Which makes me extremely sad. And it is now approaching peak season for Disney, so the hours will only get worse.

I'm hoping to try and find the energy during the day to get up and start drawing or painting again. But there is a positive! ...no traffic...at all. That's all I got. While my energy has dropped, my creative thinking has skyrocket though. There is no lack of interesting people that both work and visit Disneyland. Now it's just a matter of working out some sort of schedule! I refuse to give up my art for anything!!!

The best part of the work day for me though is when all the guests are gone, we've straightened everything for the night and we work our way outside to cross Main Street to go home. Only the street lamps are on and it's deserted. No people, no strollers, no noise. The castle lights have been turned off. I love looking in both directions on Main Street and just take it all in. Very few people get to see the park like this, and that's when it's "magical" to me :)

Mind Heist

Hey there!
Back again for another update. I've been busy with my training at Disney, so sorry that things are a little slow, I'm excited to start working there though :D I've been having a whole bunch of character and concept ideas so it's been really hard to buckle down and focus on one thing at a time. I have a tendency when I'm overwhelmed I end up not doing anything at all (like a deer caught in the headlights).
To get back into the swing of things, I attended a Monday night drawing session. The poses are 25 minutes each and I never realized how fast I've gotten until I finished my drawing and was sitting there waiting a long time for another pose to start...not long ago I was struggling to get something down with so little time. Now I can get two drawings in, and then work on some original stuff while everyone else is finishing up :)
On the other hand, now it feels like I have too many ideas and too little time to accomplish them. Since I'm working again, it's like the creativity block I've been experiencing has melted away and I'm trying to keep up! I'll not complain about it though :D
Without further ado, here are the sketches from Monday, the theme was the Goddess Venus. I improvised a lot with her look, and I also threw in my original sketches that I was doodling in between poses. Enjoy!

Prying Open My Third Eye!

Happy Thursday everyone :)
I finally found some time to update a post...I've been kept on my toes with the new job application process and getting everything set to start that. So sorry for the late post, but hopefully I will get better :P
Anyways, I went out the other day to spend some of the birthday money and was trying to find an Urban Outfitters clothing store nearby. My GPS took my down to Newport and I parked in an area claiming to be the Anti-Mall...O.o??? The entire area was covered in gardens and tall trees with mirrors and lamps hanging off of them, and it took me forever to find some sort of door to the inside! I guess what I stumbled across was a hippie chic center complete with organic clothing, hair salon, and cafes. It was actually very nice and a wonderful idea...they just needed a more obvious entrance...when I have to break out my machete I think that's when it looses the magic.
I'm still pumped about starting work at Disney, I even went out and got several lunch containers so I could take my own food (I had way too much fun picking out a lunchbox). I want to keep on with the nearly "no fast food" streak that I have going. I must say that I've really enjoyed cooking my own meals :D

I'm back!
Sorry I've been gone for so long. Life has been full of ups and downs. I was having a hard time last month due to unemployment and lack of money and options. But I'm very happy to say that things are finally looking up :) I am now employed by Disneyland and will start at the end of May (yahoo!!!!) and today is my 25th Birthday!!!! My mom was able to fly out for a visit, and we had a great time :) I always wish it could last longer. I'm finally drawing again, so posts will be up and running from here on out.
It was funny, I went to Starbucks today to get myself a cupcake for my birthday and they had an 80's theme going XD It made me feel special, but then I heard the two girls behind the counter debating on whether either of them could fool anyone into believing they were born in '88 (apparently they wanted to be children of the 80's). So that made me feel ancient with my '85 birthday...damn kids :P
But I've been hearing from all my relatives that 25 was a great age for them, so I'm taking that attitude and running with it :D Here is to another wondering year, I live by the beach and I work for the "happiest place on earth!"
P.S. When I went to Macaroni Grill I started sketching on the table like I always do, but came up with something fun, I took a picture of it and I'm hoping to ink it as my next project :) Enjoy!!!!!

80's Movies and Black Cherry Forests

Quick update today!
I've been having fun watching some old movies and creating some inks from them. I used to love the movies Neverending Story and Labyrinth, so I couldn't help but watch them again and become inspired. Hope you like the quick inks that I created from those two awesome movies. I also included my Monday workshop work. I ended up just taking a large bristol board and working to fill up the entire page. It was a lot of fun :)

Beautiful Monday

Hey!
Just wanted to do a quick update for you all on this fabulous Monday! The weather is so nice today! I've been painting with my balcony door open :) Love Spring weather!!! Todays turning out to be an all day create--a-thon. I've been painting and drawing since early this morning and then I get to go to my workshop tonight and draw into the early hours of tomorrow! Woo! So many exclamation marks!!!!!! OK, I'll stop.

Anyway, went to the aquarium again this past weekend and had a great time. I brought my sketchbook to draw but there were too many people there. It was a challenge to even get to a tank to see anything, let alone sit there and draw. I'll try to go on a week day instead in the near future. I thought I could get some great videos though and brought my flip cam. I was all ready and filming when the low battery light went off! Gah! And there were tons of things to film too :( I mean, a sea horse came right up to the glass and kept looking at me! Maybe next time.

But on to the art: This painting is based off of a loose sketch that I did at last weeks workshop for warm up before any of the models came out. I liked the character so much that I decided to flesh it out. Hope you enjoy! Comment below if you like it! They make me happy :)

Carpe Diem

Hello!

Sorry it has taken so long to update, I've been traveling and trying to get things done. I'm excited to say that I'm going back to school! Yay! It's just a few continuing education courses, I didn't want to start a new degree or anything. This way I'll get the chance to meet more new people in LA and stop moping around the house :) I don't know when, but I also hope to start a painting class (either acrylic or oils, I'm not sure which). But I think it is so important to keep building my craft.

With this economy it's really depressing right now, but I'm trying to keep my eye on the prize and work for what I want! I've never worked so hard in my life :P But fingers crossed! I'm trying to keep up the positive energy in my life. Lots of negatives are flying around these days and it's so easy to find yourself drowning in it. Carpe Diem...and all that!

Went to the Gallery Girls workshop last night, so here is the collection. I was working on my quick draw warm ups, i was impressed since I just threw it right down in pen. So pat on the back for me. I'm still trying to work out the theme though. There was a lot of German record music playing *shrugs*.

Hello again!
Time for another update! It's been a nice productive week, which I like! I've mostly been staying in and working on my digital art and portfolio. I have been getting up early and starting with some research and then speed painting on the computer. Hopefully this practice will let me get better with color selection and layout, but we'll see. If they get better I'll start posting them here on the blog. So fingers crossed.
I did get the chance to finally visit the Queen Mary luxury ship. And I have to say that I was disappointed. I tend to like historical places and objects, but I think the Queen Mary has been stripped down and recreated into too many things, so now she's no longer historically accurate. But on a positive note, the ghost tour was hilarious! If you've been searching for a laser light ghost show with hints of techno...search no further. But it's kinda sad since I think they were trying to be serious...wound up being cheesy.
My post today is from one of the Gallery Girls sessions that I was able to clean up. I've been really working on my line work and just allowing myself to try some new styles. I'll also post my Sunday drawing club sketches. It was a nice relaxing time, so I hope you like them!
On a side note: I love comments!!!!! I post faster with encouragement.

Hello!
I'm very excited since I just got done with a digital painting. It's been forever since I've been in Photoshop, and I don't know why. I love doing it! I decided to paint one of my monsters, since I've been putting that off...but no more! I've decided to kick this procrastination thing out the window! It is time to love working again :)
In other news, I did not attend either the Drawing Club or the Late Nite with the Gallery Girls. I wanted to save a little money and work on some of the stuff that I already have. And I'm glad I did. Hopefully I'll attend this week, so more to come! I also went to the Los Angeles Zoo last week. I've never been, and it was worth the drive! It was a lot of fun just sketching any animal that I wanted. So I highly recommend it if you have time to kill.

Hello Again!
Just dropping by to post another batch of my latest drawing excursions. I decided to wait to post my Thurs. session with my Monday night Late Night get together. I picked the best of the bunch. In other news, I went to see Sherlock Holmes last week and loved it! Unfortunately, me and my friend came in late and found out that the theatre we went to had assigned seating...guess where we were seated? Front row and center, baby! So even though it was an excruciating 2 hours, mixed in with a little motion sickness, I still loved the film! So that goes to show that it's a good one :) I have still yet to see Avatar, and I'm kicking myself for it. Hopefully by the next post it'll have happened.
I thought I'd share this with anyone that's interested, they have a color test on careerpath.com that I found fun. Apparently they're trying to find a link between what colors you prefer and see if they reflect on what you will become in life (career wise). It took only 60 sec. I found it funny. Apparently I'm suited for organizational and filing positions. It threw accounting in there though, and stated that I liked math...that's when I knew I couldn't take it seriously :P But my close second career path was anything pertaining to the creative fields. Now I will take that route instead, thanks! Of course, I paused when I realized that I had just got done with a major OCD overhaul of my entire apartment. I categorized all my books and art magazines by subject, sorted my art supplies in bins, filed all the paperwork I could find, and then proceeded to label everything....hm. Is it bad that I sorted my clothes by style and length too? Maybe the color test wasn't that far off the mark *shrugs*.

Art Store and New Drawing Social

Sorry that I've been MIA lately, I've just recently gotten over a cold. Luckily it wasn't too bad and I was able to bounce back. But in other news, I haven't been posting a lot of my Drawing Club sketches because lately they haven't been too good. I don't know if it's from lack of practice since being sick, or just a lack of inspiration but I decided to change things up a bit in my routine.
First, I was able to go to an art warehouse in Torrance that I've heard a lot about named Walsers. I was a little hesitant at first when I was driving in, the building was pushed back in between a bunch of office buildings and warehouses and the outside didn't look like any art supply store that I've ever seen. But to my great surprise, it was amazing! They have everything! Not only do they have a wonderful selection of illustration pens (the main reason for my trip, I haven't been able to find the ones I want anywhere else!!!), but they have quite a collection of any art genre you can think of. Being a warehouse, I was intimidated at first, but it turned out to be a blast! I wondered around in there for almost 2 hours! And again, I really had to control myself so I wouldn't buy everything my little artist heart desired. At the end of the trip I ended up with several packages of brush pens and another set of colored Tombow pens as well. I was really excited that they carried white out pens, which are great for fun highlights on colored paper (which you will find in the pics down below).
Later that night, I also gathered up the courage to try a new drawing social event. The Late Nite drawing social is located near Little Tokyo in downtown LA. And the drive in was spectacular with all the lights and buildings! Love this city! It was held in a restaurant and lounge that was nestled amongst the art lofts in the area. What was great about it was you could grab a drink from the bar and settle in for a night of drinking and drawing! The models were amazing, and the poses were inspiring. They were each 25 minute poses, which was just the right time for me! And there was so much talent there, professionals everywhere! But I surprised myself, armed with my new pens and brushes and a new pad of pastel colored paper, I went to town! And I got compliments on my work all night! YAY!
Sorry this blog is so long, but I was so excited to share these two discoveries! I think I'll be a regular at Late Nite Drawing, and I've posted all my work below. You can see how I used the white out pens on two of them. Let me know what you think and enjoy!

It's Raining, It's Pouring...

It seems like it will be another productive work week now that it's predicted to rain heavily all the way till Friday. It's quite lovely. I couldn't help but just stand out on my balcony and just watch it all come down :) In other news, I went to visit my great Aunt in Hemet, and was treated to a spur of the moment trip to the mountain town of Idyllwild (sp ?) It was a beautiful town with lots of shops and events, we both treated ourselves to chinese food and then some hot chocolate to keep warm...I didn't dress for the occasion, and apparently it gets really cold in the mountains. But to round up my weekend, I will post some more sketches from the drawing club. I also bought myself a moleskine sketchbook which I've been wanting for the longest time. It's so light to carry around, so I've switched my heavy one out of my purse in exchange for the moleskine. In celebration, I broke it in with a few inks of scenery. Enjoy!

Hey Everyone,
Here are a few sketches from my life drawing sessions. They are a couple weeks old, but I thought that they deserved to be posted on my blog. They are the same pose in two different styles. I hope you like them.

In other news, I took a trip to Stuart NG books, and splurged a little on a few illustration books. I love that place, but I really have to control myself so I don't spend everything in my bank account...that would not be good. But I did manage to see a new artist that I've been following on blogspot. He published his own art book so he was there signing copies....this town is crazy like that. You think of something or someone, and there they are!

Now that the end of the year is here, I like to reflect on the previous year. In the past, it has always been really hard for my to think positively on my accomplishments. Mainly because there are so many more goals that I want to tackle. I always feel that it's just another year wasted . But not this time.

I can't help but be incredibly proud of what I've been able to do in the past year :) I took a giant leap and moved out on my own to California. Something that I've been dreaming of doing since my high school days. I can't begin to describe how much I love living in LA. I know it's a giant city, and that could be off-putting, but there is so much to see and do there. And more importantly, I've been able to reconnect with my family and relatives that live there. They truly have big hearts, and I am once again reminded at how blessed I am to be a part of such a generous and kind group of people (on both my mom's and dad's side!!!).

I've been able to find a focus with my artwork, and have come to the conclusion that this is truly what I want to do. There is always that battle with taking the practical route, or doing something that makes you really happy. Art, of all kinds, makes me really happy and I can't imagine doing anything else. In the past year I have been lucky enough to meet and talk to every single one of my personal and professional heroes. It still blows my mind that I've been able to do that! Not only that, but I am meeting more wonderful people each and every day!

I know that this isn't artwork, but I wanted to get this out today. More sketches will be posted within the next few days. I got a ton of art supplies for X-mas so I'm super excited to get cracking on new genres :)

I hope everyone's holidays goes great!

Hello!

Here are a few of the sketches that I've been working on. It's been really cold here in Colorado, and snowy. But the positive of that is I do tend to get a ton of sketches and work done when I'm stuck indoors. So......let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Hehe. These are just the rough sketches, I'm going to start adding color in Photoshop once I get my wacom tablet calibrated for my mac. Let me know what you think!

My mom and brother got me an early Christmas gift the other day: an awesome 96 pc media travel kit. It has everything! Oil paints, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, pencils, etc. I decided to have some fun with the watercolors today :) Hope you like, I'm still trying to grasp this media!

So...it has been over a year since I have updated this blog, and I'm a little disappointed in myself.

But this year had not been a failure: far from it!!!! Through it all I've come to find that I've grown more as a person within this last year than I have my entire life. I have had the greatest of pleasures meeting some of the best people on earth! I've reconnected with family that were once too far away, I have met every single person that's ever inspired me to be the artist and creator that I am today. I have been able to talk one on one with my personal heroes, and I've found new ones along the way. I live in a city that is abundant with culture, inspiration, beauty, and weirdness. And I'm constantly excited to see more. And most importantly: I have faced shattering disappointment, and was able to pick myself up after it and be more determined than ever before. I know what I want in life.

I am living my dream. And I am forever thankful for that fact.
